Printing to a Cannon LPB8-III - HELP

I really need some help with this one. I have several Canon LPB8 Mark III in the office. Now this printer doesnt have an appletalk interface.. but it has a centronics and rs232. I was told by canon that i needed to spend $245 on something called Powerprint which is a cable (?) and drivers. What i wanna know... cant I just get a driver from somewhere... and to direct serial printing to the port? id rather not spend the $245 as its not going to be used very often for the mac.
