Although unsupported, CodeWarrior 8 does run under Panther, so you can use it for Java development if you wish. Personally I really like the CW IDE for editing files and the compile speed is great, but it has always been a tad awkward launching and debugging Java apps (especially command line tools that use command line arguments and/or stdin/stdout). Xcode is also an option. It doesn't require you to use any of the Cocoa APIs so you can build cross platform Java apps if you wish. Code completion doesn't work with Java yet, which is annoying. By default, Xcode uses javac for the compiler, which is quite slow. You can opt to use the jikes compiler which is comparable in speed to CW. Between the two I think CW has the edge in usability, but it may not be worth the extra $, especially given the fact that it is unsupported on Panther. Dave
