I just made a new project from the <Mac OS C++/Multi-Target/Mac OS
Toolbox/C++ Toolbox Multi-Target Bundle> stationery, and tried building it
without making any changes whatsoever. I got a strange error:
Link Error : Couldn't get file information from IDE.
I've seen this before with other projects but have never managed to find out
what the problem is. This time, after about a day of fiddling about, I
*have* managed to find a way to make the project build.
The problem is with the target <Resources>, which uses the Mac OS Merge
linker to copy the resource file <SimpleAlert.rsrc> into the bundle. This
target is a sub-target of each of the other targets. The file type and
creator is rsrc/RSED, and checking the file mappings for the <Resources>
target I find that the compiler is set to Rez. When I set this mapping entry
to 'None' this target (and all the other targets) build OK. Or, if I set the
type to 'RSRC' instead of 'rsrc' the problem also goes away, because the
original mapping for this type uses 'None'. Also, if I open the file with
Resorcerer, the problem goes away because Resorcerer sets the type to
'RSRC'.
Has anyone else seen this problem before? Is this the right way to solve it?
Is MetroWerks aware of this extremely dumb error message that gets put out
in these circumstances?

Can you send this in as a bug report and we'll fix it for Pro 8. The only reason we have set the compiler for 'rsrc' or 'RSRC' files to Rez is so you can choose Disassemble on the resource file to perform DeRez (to give you a text based resource file). Thanks for letting us know about this. -- Isaac Wankerl Metrowerks Mac Software Team

First half of May at WWDC, barring unforeseen difficulties.
