Rescued Items in CW IDE

Warriors,

The Beta 5.0 IDE now incorporates fixes for the several causes of
''Rescued Items'' for which we had reproducible test cases.

These are the cases that were fixed:

1) a project containing two entries with the same name, but
resolving to distinct files no longer coalesces the two into
one when both files are missing. (Only to be rescued when the
project is later opened with both files findable.)

The canonical example is a library file appearing in the project
twice with one entry a Debug instance and the other Release.

Duplicate entries continue to be coalesced when they resolve to the
same (existing) file and a log entry now reported for each coalesced
project file.

2) a error in the handling of not-currently-valid source trees has been
corrected and no longer leads to a Rescued Item

3) removing a project entry from a target using the COM interface now
updates the GUI preventing a potential Rescued Item

4) deleting the last target of a project no longer reverts to an
incomplete earlier state which would cause a Rescued Item.

Since these fix all known reproducible cases, if you encounter another
way to create a Rescued Item (especially with the 5.0 IDE), please send
it in. Of course, good test cases greatly appreciated.

Thanks, we can't fix them if we don't know about them. :)

One case I get often is when there is two file with the same name in the
access paths and none of them are in the project. I add the one that comes
later in the search order. It will find the correct file until I close the
project and reopen it. When it is reopened it finds the incorrect file first
and puts up the rescued items dialog. I actually like getting that warning
since it means there is an ambiguity and somebody did something bad :).

Bert!

I'll let the engineers know about this.
