Metrowerks Licenses PowerPlant Technology to Adobe for Mac to Windows
Application Migration
PowerPlant for Windows Technology Will Help Users Reach Windows Market
Quickly
MACWORLD EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO-January 7, 2002-Metrowerks has licensed
technology to Adobe Systems Incorporated that will allow Adobe(r) to
easily migrate Mac(r) OS applications to the Windows(tm) operating
system. The technology, based on Metrowerks' PowerPlant(tm) framework,
makes it possible to migrate code through a simple recompile process,
resulting in a true MFC- (Microsoft(r) Foundation Classes) based
application.
Though emulation technology exists that makes it possible to run Mac OS
applications on Windows, the PowerPlant for Windows technology from
Metrowerks allows Mac developers to create Windows applications with a
smaller memory footprint, a more responsive user interface, and more
Windows features.
"Licensing the PowerPlant technology from Metrowerks enables us to bring
our products to market more quickly, by re-using Mac OS source code to
generate a Windows product with the behaviors of the Windows operating
system," said David Trescot, director of Digital Video product
management for Adobe Systems Incorporated.
Metrowerks also announced today an OEM Licensing Program that allows
software and hardware vendors to bundle, integrate or extend industry
leading CodeWarrior development and analysis tools.
"Metrowerks is committed not only to providing industry leading tools to
Mac OS developers, but offering them the opportunity for strategic
licensing agreements such as this, which give them access to technology
that addresses their specific needs," said Berardino Baratta, chief
technology officer, Metrowerks. "One of those is the need to protect
their investment in software intellectual property and address a wider
audience."
Vendors seeking more information on the Metrowerks OEM Licensing Program
may contact Metrowerks by telephone at 800-377-5416, ext. 4716 or

> Metrowerks Licenses PowerPlant Technology to Adobe for Mac to Windows > Application Migration I take it this is the same internal PP version used to make the Windows version of the IDE ? The same version that I was told last year was an awful kludge, unmaintainable and full of IFDEFs, when I pressed to have it made available ? I have heard numbers like $50K for a license, which does make sense if it requires MW to dedicate a support engineer to help out with some, not very good code. However, the functionality is one that ought to be made available to all PP users at a much lover cost, (of course without support). I would be interested in a one product shareware licence for at most $1K. I saw another PP2MFC layer in MacTech a while ago. Does anyone have experience with that ? Kent Sorensen http://www.snak.com
