Metrowerks To Give Apple Developers Early Access to New CodeWarrior Tools
for Mac OS X

New Tools Allow Development of Native Mac OS X Applications, Include First
Java Debugger for Mac OS X

AUSTIN, Texas-May 18, 2001-Metrowerks is providing Mac OS developers at
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) early access to new
CodeWarrior(r) tools for Mac OS X. The Early Access tools support the
Mach-O object file format, providing developers with access to the full
set of native Mac OS X APIs, and will allow developers to create Java 2
applications on Mac OS X for the first time.

The tools, which will be included in an upcoming version of CodeWarrior
for Mac OS due out this fall, will be given out to WWDC attendees at no
cost. With improved debugging capabilities for Mach-O and the Preferred
Execution Format (PEF), the tools provide Mac OS developers with increased
performance and reliability.

"Providing developers with early access to new tools for Mac OS X reflects
Metrowerks' commitment to the Apple developer community and strong support
for Apple's new operating system," said John Smolucha, vice president of
marketing, Metrowerks. "This release is our response to what the Mac
developer community has told us they need, and our intent is to give them
access to these tools as early as possible so they can be in a better
position to develop for Mac OS X."

The Early Access release includes a new CodeWarrior Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) with support for Mac OS X frameworks. The IDE includes
updated Mach-O compilers, the first Java debugger for Mac OS X, updated
Metrowerks Standard Libraries (MSL), an updated PowerPlant framework, and
many other new, improved, and updated components for targeting PEF and
Mach-O on Mac OS X. At the same time, developers can use the same
CodeWarrior tools to develop for Classic Mac OS.

"Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit has depended for several years on
CodeWarrior tools to develop our award-winning products," said Kevin
Browne, general manager of the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit. "We
simply couldn't make Office 2001 for Mac, Internet Explorer 5 Macintosh
Edition or Outlook Express the high quality products they are without
Metrowerks' leading edge technology and the support they provide us. We
look forward to using the next version of CodeWarrior to make the best Mac
OS X applications we can."

Approximately 90 percent of the Macintosh applications on the market today
were developed using Metrowerks' CodeWarrior IDE.

Availability

The Early Access release will be distributed on CD only. WWDC attendees
will receive the CD upon registration at the conference. The Early Access
CD can also be ordered from Metrowerks after May 21st for a handling fee
of $9.95. Please call Metrowerks Sales at 800-377-5416 (512-997-4700
outside the U.S.) or email us at sales@metrowerks.com to place an order.

...and on warez boards, I predict. Putting a true and correct version of
it on the Net might help preempt that.

Metrowerks may not be able to redistribute parts of the Early Access CD
on our web site. We don't have the bandwidth to distribute them and
the 6.2 update at the same time.

I will look into seeing if we can distribute these via the net at some
time after the update has finished.

By thye way,

Motorola has an international fraud department for people that steal and
redistribute our intellectual property. This is one of the nice things
about being part of a large multinational company. I monitor the Warez
groups.
