Mac Warriors,
Metrowerks is announcing two releases that will be available to you at
Apples World Wide Developers Conference on May 21, 2001. We are happy
to make these releases available at no charge. Pricing previously
posted to the Metrowerks website no longer applies.
The first release is CodeWarrior for Mac OS v6.2. This is a moderate
maintenance update to the CodeWarrior for Mac OS v6.0 compilers and
linkers. This release updates your v6.0 or v6.1 installation to the
latest PPC and 68K PEF based compilers. This is not a Mach-O update.
The second release is an Early Access of CodeWarrior for Mac OS v7.0
components. This release includes a new CodeWarrior IDE (version 4.2)
with support for Mac OS X frameworks, updated Mach-O compilers, updated
Metrowerks Standard Libraries (MSL), updated PowerPlant framework,
greatly improved PEF and Java Debugging on Mac OS X, as well as many
other new, improved, and updated components for targeting PEF and Mach-O
on Mac OS X. This release will also include the updated PEF compilers
from the v6.2 update described above. This is an early access to the
components that youve told us that you need now.
CodeWarrior for Mac OS v6.2 will be made available in the usual place on
the Metrowerks Updates and Patches webpage accessed by clicking on
Downloads from the Metrowerks home page http://www.metrowerks.com.
Due to the large size of the Early Access release, it will be
distributed on CD only. This CD will be available to all WWDC
attendees. You can get your CD at the show at any Metrowerks function
or by asking any Metrowerks representative during the week of the
conference. The v6.2 update will also be included on the CD for your
convenience.
For those of you who will not be attending WWDC, the Early Access CD can
be ordered from Metrowerks after May 21st for a handling fee of $9.95.
Please call Metrowerks Sales at 800-377-5416 or email us at
sales@metrowerks.com to place an order.
We all look forward to seeing you at WWDC this year. Please come see us
in the exhibit area where our engineers will be available to answer your
questions and listen to your concerns.
Please monitor our webpage at http://www.metrowerks.com/macosx for
further information regarding Mac OS X development tools.

Excellent! So, I understand you won't be shipping this until May 21st, but can we place an order now or should we wait until May 21st to place it? Dennis D.

The web site should have more information about ordering the CD as the
time nears.

Let's cut to the chase: can it build an Objective-C Cocoa app? -jcr

I might be a big fan of PowerPlant, but as far as my recollection of programming languages goes there is only one language whose syntax I hate more than Objective C, and it's Scheme. All we really need is for Metrowerks to release a PowerPlant which uses Quartz instead of QuickDraw... I don't know what you guys think but my carbonized PP applications look very cheap under OS X. Plus I really want my fonts to have the same anti-aliased style as the rest of the OS. Gabriele

The only Carbon app I've seen that doesn't look cheap under OS X is iTunes. -jcr

I have been seeking The Ultimate Wisdom of Mac Programming for years, and now you've finally enlightened me. You will have my eternal gratitude! I will spend the rest of my life finding ways to repay you. I think I'll start by contributing to your crack budget. meeroh -- You can get random signatures if you put text files into a folder called "Random Signatures" in your Preferences folder.

We allow you to access the Mach-O and directly access POSIX, cocoa is
not the only Mac OS X framework.

I'd think just the opposite, hmm, a PowerPlant for OS X
Anyone interested?
