Warriors:

I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of CodeWarrior for
Palm(r) OS Platform, Version 7.0.

CodeWarrior, the world's most popular and comprehensive software for
building applications that run on Palm OS platforms, offers a complete set
of development tools to create programs that will run directly on a Palm
OS device. The CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
includes everything you need for fast development of Palm OS applications:
editor, project manager, C/C++ compiler, linker, direct-to-device
debugger, with source- and assembly-level debugging capability. Hosted on
Windows(r) and Mac(r) OS computers.

The top new features and improvements in this version are:

1) New IDE - The IDE (Integrated Developer Environment) has been revamped
and improved. It features an improved editor that is easier to use and
has new features such as a new "Find..." utility. The new IDE also
features a new, powerful C/C++ symbol browser.

2) Improved Linker - The new linker checks the developer's code for
"segments" (e.g. blocks of reserved memory) that are too big for Palm OS
and the underlying CPU architecture to handle. So, if a developer tries
to use a block of memory that is greater than the inherent 64K limit, the
linker detects this and flags it for attention. The linker also prevents
the generation of invalid PIRC files.

3) Improved Debugger - The new debugger features improved error checking,
USB debugging support for Handspring Visors, and can show XML register
details of the 68K CPU's general purpose registers.

4) Improved Compiler - Conforms to the latest ANSI/ISO C/C++ standard, and
features inline assembly language support.

These and other improvements are now part of the seamless CodeWarrior for
Palm OS v7.0 development tool. For more details, please see the product
data sheet, attached.

The MSRP is $369. But wait! In conjunction with the PalmSource show next
week, we will be having a PalmSource Special pricing of $249, valid from
Dec. 11-15. CodeWarrior may be bought during that period at the special
price at the PalmSource Store, or by calling 1-800-377-5416.

How well does this new CW for Palm release coexist with the latest
CW Pro and Java release?

I remember having many problems getting last years Palm and Pro
releases to coexist on a single bootable Mac disk (debugger, nub and
IDE pref conflicts, etc.)

I believe that this deal is just for the Palm Developer community that is
attending Palm Source.

On Windows, you must have Pro 6 installed first, then Windows will detect
the installation and ask you if you want to merge. On Mac there is an
option to do a Merge Install, however the 68K libraries and precompiled
headers must be rebuilt (if they are installed).

Could you elucidate on the Mac situation, please?

Should you do a Pro 6 install first, then a merge install of Palm R7, or
vice versa? Or is it easier to do clean installs of both and hand-merge?

Thanks!

Install CodeWarrior Pro v6 install Palm r7 using the Merge option, then
rebuild the 68k libraries and precompiled headers.

That is it.
