Hello,

As you know we have had interactive help with ThinkReference for many
years. Is anyone still using this interactively with CodeWarrior?

Please write to me or post here if you are USING ThinkRef. CW 9 will
have a new Context Help system and we would like to refine the process
to make it easier on our users.

Again, I understand it is a useful tool, but if you aren't using it
interactively don't post a reply.

Thanks

Ron

Hi Ron,

Yeppir, I still use it all the time. Unfortunately, it is getting
pretty long in the tooth, but a goof half or more of the Mac OS API is
still found here, and I also use it for C and C++ Standard Library
information (like strtok, etc.)

Hope that helps,
Jonathan

I use it all the time.

I really wish someone would update it to the latest docs from Apple.

Full agreement here.

Think Reference was awesome! Nothing since comes close to it.
Figuring out APIs (like Carbon) is a bear. Every time, I wish there
were something like Think Reference that quickly found the API (or
data type), fully explained it and provided some copy and paste sample
code to quickly implement it.

Fully agree. I used it interactively with Object Master for years. Now I'm
using Cocoa Browser which is great, but I lost the interactivity. What a
pity.

Yep, still use it myself quite a bit. Tom_E, would you be willing to
share that little tool you made?

--begin forwarded message--
Yes. I have a small application stub that pretends to be the Altura
Help
viewer and in response to Codewarriors Apple Event

- forwards it to Think Reference
- goes to developer.apple.com and queries the website

Ron,

Perhaps a suggestion could be made for Metrowerks to create its own
version of Think Reference, only Carbonized and with the native OS X
interface. Yes, yes, I know that Metrowerks has its own reference
material ranging in format from HTML to pdf to Apple Help, etc. But
consider that the ease of use of Think Reference is so great, despite
being outdated and containing very old information, people are still
using it because it is so easy! (I still use it first and use the
Metrowerks references only if Think Reference fails me.)

So, if the usability is so great, why not adopt it?

I believe Xplain (MacTech Magazine) owns the rights to ThinkReference
they are who you need to suggest this to.
