Metrowerks Offers Low Priced CodeWarrior(tm) Tools for Mac(r) OS X
Programmers
Easy-to-Use Tools Suite is Ideal for Hobbyists and Novice Programmers
AUSTIN, Texas - January 7, 2003 - Metrowerks is introducing
CodeWarrior(tm) Development Studio, Mac OS X Edition at an introductory
price of US$99 until February 28, 2003. Programmers writing
applications for Mac(r) OS X now have a low cost choice when it comes to
development tools.
As a subset of Metrowerks' CodeWarrior Development Studio for Mac OS,
Professional Edition, Version 8, the Mac OS X Edition is ideal for
hobbyists and novices because it contains essentially the same
development tools used by professional programmers and includes features
designed to simplify the development process.
One such feature is Code Completion, which provides fast access to the
prototypes and parameters of any function in a project. Code Completion
enables programmers to write code more quickly without stopping to look
up hard-to-remember functions and symbols.
Furthermore, the Mac OS X Edition enables programmers to build either
C++ applications using the Metrowerks PowerPlant(tm) Framework or
Objective-C applications using Apple's Cocoa(tm) framework.
Like the professional CodeWarrior products, the Mac OS X Edition is
built on the graphical CodeWarrior integrated development environment
(IDE), which combines everything programmers need in one easy to use
tools suite. The IDE includes an advanced project manager, build
system, source code editor, compilers, linkers, debuggers, class
browser, and more.

Excuse my cynicism, but I am a bit concerned that this may be a case of "bait and switch". What will be the cost of the upgrade to the CW 9 version of "CodeWarrior(tm) Development Studio, Mac OS X Edition"? Can you make a commitment that it will not be excessive ( in other words >$99) Andrew

Huh? Bait and switch is when you advertise one product but then don't
have it and sell something else. We fully intend to sell lots of this
product.

I can tell you right now that the $99 price is as mentioned in the press
release an introductory offer and expires in 6 weeks (well less than
that now). After that the price is going to raise significantly !!!
I have no idea if there will ever be a CodeWarrior Development Studio
Maco OS X edition v9 . It probably depends on how popular this product
is and if there are changes that make it necessary to have an updated
version.
So right now until Feb sometime you can buy this product for $99 Plus
s/h and taxes and that is all there is to say. This is a very good
deal for people doing Mac O S X development that want the speed and
convenience of the CodeWarrior IDE compilers and debuggers.

CodeWarrior Pro for Mac OS version 9 is scheduled :)

Metroweks is bullish on Mac OS X, and it is a very important product.

Palm only supplies CFM libraries, and this CW Development Studio is Mach-O only. Cheers, Chris

If you are talking about the Palm applications that run on Palm you'd
need CodeWarrior for Palm. But I don't think that is what you mean. I
think you want the conduit and the applications that reside on the Mac
and I'm not sure that this is possible. Since it does just Mach-O and
I think the Conduit SDK is PEF/CFM files. But I will pass this on and
if we can do it let you know.

You will need CDK 4.03 for Mac OS it is the first to support
development for both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Specifically you want the
Conduit Development Kit for Mac OS X -- Provides connection between Palm
OS software programs and the Mac OS X desktop. I think you can use that
with CW Development Studio for Mac OS X
