Mac IIx memory

I heard the rumor that the Mac IIx is limited to using 1 meg SIMMs and
cannot take advantage of the new 4 meg SIMMS.  Does anyone know for
sure?  I am contemplating getting one although I may just spring for the
Mac IIci.
