> To Tom: Just what can't you do in MSWord 5.0 that you can do in emacs?

>Keyboard macros

MS-Word for the mac v5.0 has keyboard macros.

>Toggle words

You can do things like this using macros and other built-ins.

>Execute other program

I suspect (did not look this up) that you can use apple events
to run other programs from within Word.

>Towers of Hanoi (OK, OK)

I know for sure you can do Towers of Hanoi in WinWord; I have
not looked to see if WordBasic made it into Mac MS Word.

Word on the mac is as evil as emacs; it eats all resources.

Emacs v<19 do not have mouse-based drawing tools, built-in
grammar checkers, table editors, etc.

Word does not have LISP built-in.

The two apps are trying to solve different problems, or at
least their respective users should be trying to do so.
