I also have opened Word 3.0 documents with soft hyphens. Looking at
the laserwriter output in front of me, the hyphens look fine - no
space between the word and the hyphen at the end of the line.

Currently running on a MacPlus, using the pre-SE system (whatever the
numbers were), and printing in Times.

So far I am pleased with 3.01 - after all footnotes seem to work,
finally.
