Mucking with fonts; I need my hand held

I want to make a font which is darn near identical to an existing one
(say Monaco). So I know I have to pick a font family (say, 210) and
the FOND will have ID 210, have my new name, contain a pointer to my
FONT, which will have the ID 26892 (210x128+12) since the point size
will be 12, and which will also have my name.

Now, I think I did this, but on one occasion, I got two mentions in
the font menu that KeyCaps puts up, and on another occasion, I got
one, but the Font/DA Mover (v3.5) didn't mention it. This is Sys4.1.

If someone has the cannonical way to do the above, could they post it?
Seems like a useful trick to me.
