Just use the third person plural in place of the singular when gender is
unknown, unwanted, etc.  This is very sensible, and it is (I've been told)
actually a revival of a usage that had some real currency in the nn-th
(I can't recall "nn") century.  I've known many people in Nueva York who
have agreed with this for years -- but it won't catch on because many people
would rather make up an absurd and ugly new word in order to make a point.

Does anyone know of a version of TeX for the Atari ST?
I would particularly like one with .dvi output and drivers
for a monochrome monitor and for some of the cheaper (i.e.,
non-PostScript) laser printers.
