I have had an SE eat disks that I had been using on my Plus.  It happened
three or four times--take a good disk to the SE, pop it in, and bye-bye
data.  The disk was not readable on the + or SE.

Now, I have an SE, so it's not my problem anymore, and I haven't pursued
it.  But you aren't alone in having problems...
