Question About LaserWriter to Plus Upgrade

I have a LaserWriter that I was planning to upgrade to a LaserWriter Plus
for more fonts and speed. Is the $899 Apple kit the only game in town, or
is there a better/cheaper/other way that might be more cost-effective or
serve the same purpose?
