Closing vents on top of MacPlus to get better pull from fan

I recently upgraded my MacPlus to 2 mgs of memory. I already had a system
cooling fan in use. I was advised by the service man who installed the up-
grade that I would get a better cooling effect from the bottom of the case
if I taped the top two air vents closed. Otherwise, my fan instead of
drawing air from the bottom or middle area would be drawing air from these
top vents. He assured me this would be the best way to cool my MacPlus.
What do some of you computer mavens think of this idea?? Should I do it?
Thanks for your advice in advance Ron Elkin PACS
