Messed up MacDraw

I'm running a Mac Plus with pre-Claris MacDraw and a reasonably recent
system and finder (though I don't use multi-finder) (excuse the
uncertainty, but I'm at work and the Mac is at home).

Whenever I ask MacDraw to display any kind of dimensions all I get
displayed is question marks.  The axes move and everything is fine EXCEPT I
cant't find out how far I'm moving the cursor.

Question:  what did I do to myself when I last upgraded my system/finder?
