Mac Image File Formats

I need some help.

Does anyone know the file structure/format of TIFF, GIF, and/or RIFF image
data? I have several sets of gray scale (8 bit-256 gray level) and color
images which I would like to be able to read and then display using a
program such as ImageStudio, Giffer, etc.

My data is stored as 8-bit data with one pixel per byte. The images are
512x512 and 256x256 pixels in raster scan order with no delimiters.

Have there been any magazine articles describing the image formats. I saw
that the latest (Mar 89) MacUser describes TIFF as "tag image file format"
and RIFF as "raster image file format" but gives no technical details.

Please send mail or post messages. Thanks.
