Microsoft Word 4.0 and Adobe Illustrator problem

In the past, I've incorporated Adobe Illustrator drawings into MSW 3.0x
by using Option-copy on the drawings into the clipboard, and then pasting
them into the document.

I tried to do it with MSW 4.0, and got horrid results:  each drawing
expanded to 8 x 10 inches and overwrote the text.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?  I'm running under
system 6.03  (and no multifinder).
