Why can't I FTP sumex-aim?

I tried FTPing to sumex-aim.stanford.edu and it worked except that I couldn't
retrieve files!  Here is a session log:

P.s.  I received an interesting list of FTPable sights that has over 500
nodes in the mail, a few minutes ago (more power to the net!).  If anyone
