Help with Music Notation?

I'm a bit new to the Macintosh world... so I've got a naive question...
if a notation program (like DMCS) says it uses "SONATA" fonts, does that
mean that you need a POSTSCRIPT printer to print your outputs? Or
does that just mean that you can get faster output with a POSTSCRIPT
printer?

I was thinking about trying to use a DESKWRITER.

Thanks for any help.
