Greetings. I have a mildly annoying and RECURRING problem with the Macintosh desktop on some Novell NetWare servers. To be specific, each has a separate partition setup to be accessed by the Macs via AppleTalk. Starting applications by double-clicking on a document's icon will frequently result in a dialog box with a message like: _____________________________________________________________________ | The NCSA/BYU Telnet 2.5 document "rock the casbah" could not be | | opened, because the application program that created it could | | not be found. ______ | | | OK | | | ~~~~~~ | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've tried rebuilding the desktop (which means logging in as "supervisor" from a Mac running system 6, while holding down the command and option keys). This seems to repair any missing ICON data, but doesn't really solve this problem. Starting applications by double-clicking on the applications' icons works correctly. Applications, once run, can be found by clicking on a document until such time as the server volume is dragged to the trash or the system has been restarted. After this, the original problem returns. The group MACUSERS has Read and File Scan access to the volume. The group EVERYONE has full access to an file exchange folder. PC's can access it, but transferring DOS files doesn't affect the desktop, since these files don't impact the Mac name space. There don't appear to be any system errors relating to this problem. -- Leedell J.
