Dear Joe, I bought a 7100/80 back in August and I couldn't be happier with it. It is a very stable machine which rarely crashes. Both the machines you mentioned run a Power PC 601 processor, like the 7100. I would suggest a 7500 because it is daughterboard upgradable (the processor exists on a seperate board) and uses the new PCI slots rather than NuBus. The price of DIMM's (type of DRAM memory used in the new PowerMacs) has dropped lately too, so memory tends to be cheaper (at least in the U.S.). The 603 processor is quite a bit slower for some reason, even if the mHz rating is high. In closing, I'd recommend going for a new PowerMac (7500) since that's where Mac technology is going. If you want a minitower like the 8100, there's the 8500 too. Good luck, Mark
