Sharing mac applications on a network

We are setting up a teaching laboratory with 24 Mac IIcx's. They are
on an ethernet with a central fileserver; the machines themselves
have a single 1.44M floppy but no hard disk. The problem we have run
into is that most mac applications seem not to be shareable; once a client
machine runs the application, other machines on the network are prevented
from launching that application--the application is "busy". One exception
to this is Microsoft Word, but it is truly an exception. Does anyone know
of a general solution to this problem? We are using Novell network software
at present, but I do not believe that this problem is unique to Novell--rather
it seems to be a feature of appleshare.
