I know that this has probably been asked a million times, but I'm looking
into purchasing a FAX/Modem for my IIsi at home, and I'd be interested
in any recommendations that people out there have. I'm primarily interested
in brand names and purchase locations that people have had good experiences
with.
Thanks for any tips you have to offer.

Wally Miller: Last year, I purchased a Zoom Fax modem (2400 data / 9600 Fax Send&Receive). The modem was bought through mail-order (MacConnection). I've always had good service from them, and I really enjoy the idea of overnight delivery (same-day if you order after midnight) for only $3.00. The Zoom came with cable and software, and seems to work OK. The case is made of cheap plastic, and doesn't look like it will take too much punishment. The connector on the back looks weak, and will surely fail if I move the cable back-and-forth too much. The Zoom was the least expensive name brand that I could find at the time (~$140) that came with everything. Currently, I'm looking at the Supra FAX Modem (with v32bis) @ 14,400 buad. I'll attach it to the next Mac that I get. The Supra costs more $$$ ($378), but it looks like a more sturdy product (lots faster too). BTW: look closely at FAX/Modems. Some inexpensive units only come with FAX Send capability. Make sure that you get a Send/Receive (S/R) unit. I've had good experience with over-night mail order houses. You can find them listed in magazines like MacUser. Order a product using a major credit card (for protection), and save the gas and time of driving to a computer store. MacConnection 800-800-3333 (get a magazine to select products from) Mac'sPlace 800-367-4222 (most major product lines come with a 30 to 60 day money back guarantee, and the vendors are indicated in the product listings) [MGM]
