Hi folks,

Tank you all of you sent me e-mail for my question about
X-server program on Mac. I have received several replies.
Here is summary.

1.how to get MacX
MacX is bundled with AU/X 3.0 but also sold separetly.
Suggested retail price is $239.00 in USA.
MacX can be ordered through Apple dealer in USA.
Call the Apple catalog, 1-800-795-1000 or (800) 554-5999.

But in Japan, MacX is NOT sold as a separate product.
(I called Apple Japan yesterday and they told so....)
So I have to contact with dealer or Apple itself in USA.

BTW eXodus is sold in Japan. But its suggested retail
	price is over $500..

2.MacX,eXodus, and what else...
There are two major X-server programs on Mac: MacX and
	eXodus.
Most people who replyed to me are using MacX.

deguise@ccrs.emr.ca (J.-C Deguise) wrote that there is
another X-server program called PlanetX. But he didn't
	know about it either.

One reply from Japan said there is X-server program which
is included in DEC Pathworks for Macintosh. But he
does not know anything about that. So, please contact
	DEC,if you are interested in.

3.pros. and cons. about MacX and eXodus
I could not get enough info to compare these products,
	especially acout eXodus.

	MacX:
		Vrey true to X-windows enviroment
		Good handling of rootless window

Slow, memory eater( even with 5Mb you can get "out of
		memory" message)
		doesn't communicate with Ultrix
		Has problem with CLUT

	eXodus:
		can communicate with Ultrix

		Slow, memory eater
		Has problem with CLUT

	Thanks for your kindness.

I think I'm going to use MacX.
	Beacause, I don't have to use X-window
programs so often, I prefer cheaper one.

I have been working with a DecStation under Motif. I don't know
where there is a problem.

PlanetX from InterCon is an X-Window CLIENT program, NOT a server program.
It allows a user to remotely operate a Macintosh from any X Window System
server. I believe this is just the opposite of what you need.

I don't know what you (or whoever told you) mean by "doesn't communicate
with Ultrix". We have been using MacX version 1.1.7 and 1.2 as an X-server
to some DEC RISC/Ultrix machines (5000/200 and 5000/240) for awhile and they
work fine.

In case anyone is interested, MacX is also bundled with PathWorks for
Macintosh.
