I'm not familiar with the details of your particular project, but I want to make sure that
you are aware of these Tandem integration products for GUARDIAN and UNIX. I am
using most of them on a daily basis for software development here at Tandem (I am
using a MIPS Magnum 3000 workstation and also Sun SPARCstation). All of these
products work with Ethernet and run on the UNIX workstation.

X6530	An Motif-based Tandem 6530 terminal emulator. You invoke it by typing
x6530 <Tandem-host> and it establishes a session with the GUARDIAN host.

telnet	The standard UNIX line-oriented telnet program. Can telnet to a
	GUARDIAN host from your workstation

ftp	The standard UNIX file copy utility. Can copy files to/from GUARDIAN host.

NFS	The NFS server runs on GUARDIAN. The workstation can remote mount
GUARDIAN disks and access the files directly. Currently supports Sun only.

TCP/IP	We have a TCP/IP implementation on GUARDIAN so you can write
applications which use a workstation client and the fault tolerant GUARDIAN
system as the server. The other products above are based on TCP/IP.

These products all work on Ethernet: I am not sure whether they support modems. You
should probably follow up with your Tandem analyst on this, as she/he may have already
considered these for your particular application (I am a developer here, not a customer
analyst).

Bill Norcott
