Fred, I have read these messages about selling old software and such, well, here is a question for you: If the upgrade is defined as a means of improving existing conditions (a conotation...dont have a websters handy) then why does MS sell a Dos 5.0 upgrade package? And why does IBM sel OS/2 upgrade packages? There are many others out there, Excel, Lotus, etc. But they all call themselves upgrades. Since the software companies have decided to screw up the conotation of upgrade, why doesnt the user have a right to screw up the conotation? Also, a little side not to all of this for everyone. If software companies would charge less for software programs (which once finished cost almost nothing to reproduce, granted the cause of the equipment to copy to floppies and the floppies themselves) Why does a software package have to cost on the upwards of 400 bucks, or better yet, like in the case of autocad, in the 3k bucks range? My point is this, since software, from games to business apps, is so expensive, then you will have a pirate issue, whether selling software with no clear license, or outright piracy. Shareware is a good concept, but requires alot of trust. Freeware is the best, but not that many people have that kind of a heart. We as a purchaser, and they as a company (they being the software developers) need to come to a mutual agreement as to how to purchase, produce, and price software so as to prevent piracy, but continue the growth of sales. I put this idea to this discussion because it appears that there is a definite lack of desire by the software company to help the user, and the user to accept the business practice of the software company.
