Can the Apple MIDI Manager be downloaded (if so from where), or is only a commercially available product.

Available from APDA (including docs) or bundled with various products, including Lime, which has a demo somewhere on the net (do an ARCHIE search). MIDI Manager definitely has its uses but I use OMS for most of my MIDI work these days, using MM as an intermediary for non-OMS software. Apple's support for MM is nonexistent.
