Yes, HP is one of the finest companies out there. Packard, when he died, recently, left so much money to start a charitable fund that it is already the world's 3rd largest charitable fund in existense. They also cut a rather interesting deal with their employees, to avoid laying them off (when the company was in some financial trouble). Everone voluntarily took a 20% pay cut in exchange for not having to work Fridays. These people liked their jobs so much that almost no one left. Take that AT&T. Moving on. Packard Bell sucks rocks really hard. I wouldn't buy one of their computers unless it came with another one that would actually work. Their machines re shoddy, have one of the industries highest return rates, and are overpriced. To top it all off, they reuse parts and don't label the machines as containing old parts. After the lawsuit was started, they tried to stave it off by saying they would include labeling stating "contains parts from other computers, works, etc.." but only on the _inside_ of the box. So you wouldn't know about the used parts until after you bought the computer. I think the suit was settled, against PB, just recently. > > I like, Apple. You know what? Apple might have turned into MS if they had gotten 90% market share with their old way of thinking. MACs are great, but innovation always gets hurt when one company does everything and has no competition. That being said, I'm realising, just recently, that I will be a lot happier in life if I support companies that make products that I want, not companies that have huge market share. I try to avoid buying products where the company is going bankrupt or will dissapear tomorrow (Apple is neither), but other than that, I'll buy what helps me get the job done. MACs do that, very very well. My new Newton does that, very very well. I help Apple by buying Apple products (or PowerComputing products :) and support my shareware authors by registering their products. If MAC owners can show that they are better than PC owners by registering their shareware more often, and suporting smaller MAC firms that make great products, we can make the MAC market share explode. OK, enough for now.
