Diagnostics for NeXT Optical Drive

I am wondering if anyone with experience in diagnosing and repairing NeXT
Optical Disks would be willing to share their information with me.

I recently posted a query with the Subject: Q: Care and feeding of the NeXT
Optical Disk Drive, which resulted in some good advice. I totally cleaned out
the dust in my system and reassembled it, making sure that everything was
working as it should. However, I still have trouble with the drive spinning
down and up again when I try to use it. This happens quite often now, although
I was able to complete an entire fsck sweep on three different optical disks
without a single spin-down. I have no idea why it works sometimes and not
others. This is why I am now searching for some sort of diagnostic procedure.

About the only thing suggested which I did not do was to purchase a cleaning
kit. Perhaps a less expensive source for the NeXT Optical Drive cleaning kit
would be the solution I need. I don't even know NeXT's part number. That
would help, too.

P.S. I am sure that Samual Goldberger will be letting me know what he would
charge to fix or replace my drive, but I would prefer to handle this myself
without waiting for shipping delays. I feel technically competent enough to
fix the drive, based upon my experience with other electronics, I just need the
information.

Thanks in advance,
