HP DAT wont work with my system, SCSI problem?

I recently invested in a HP DAT drive, and it works fine, except that if I
install it anywhere other than LAST in my SCSI chain, my system wont boot.

Unfortunately, I also have a HSD scanner, which since it does not have a
SCSI regeneration, MUST be last in a the chain.

The errors I get are along the lines of system panics, and today when I
tried again I got:

sd1 (2,0) scsi_timer: timeout op: 0x28 st_state: 7 scsi_status 0x0
Target 3: BUSY; retry 1 ... 9

I have the following SCSI devices:
1 - Internal HD
2 - External HD
3 - CD Rom
4 - HP DAT
5 - HSD Scanner

(those are the SCSI Ids).

Everything except the HSD has a second scsi-port for chaining.

Should I just whinge to the supplier and tell them that the scsi interface
on the HP drive must be wonky? Why will it work if it is the last device
(with a terminator on the second port)?

Any help appreciated!

Scott
