I guess that's only 3 - not "many". :-) > It doesn't create the font wrappers, but if you know how to > use the mkdir and mv commands, it's no problem at all > (shell scripts come in really handy here). Our tech support has worked with many people that have never brought up a terminal window, much less written shell scripts. > Also, since most of the PD/Shareware fonts available on > Mac archives are in Binhex and either Stuffit! or Compact > Pro archives (which neither Meta Pro nor MetroTools will > uncompress), it might be more convenient to be on a Mac > (since the tools to uncompress the fonts exist on the Mac > for free). . Opener (or unsit which it invokes) will deal with StuffIt files. MetroTools works directly with uncompressed MacBinary downloads (of which there are quite a few). Between the two, there are hundreds of tyepfaces available for use without having access to a Mac. We have a lot of customers though that are migrating from Macs to NeXTs, and already have uncompressed font libraries on Mac disk volumes of one sort or another. For them, MetroTools is the fastest, cheapest alternative. > If you can't handle making a short UNIX shell script for > renaming and folder creation, you might be better off > with the font installer in MetroTools. If the comparison is purchasing Meta Pro and doing it on a Mac, then dealing with the rest by hand, you're not saving any money over MetroTools. Don't get me wrong - Meta Pro is a great product that does things MetroTools can't. It isn't a less expensive alternative though. And with MetroTools you get all those other nifty tools... :-) Gordon -- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Gordon Van Huizen vox: 619.488.9411 fax: 619.488.3045 Metrosoft gvh@metrosoft.com [NeXTmail welcome] ----------------------------------------------------------------
