Since there are (at least) two different cables which you might possibly need
(SCSI-2 to SCSI-1, if it is the only external SCSI device you have, or SCSI-1
to SCSI-1, if you are daisy-chaining them) and since you may or may not need
a terminator (my DAT is terminated internally, for instance), NeXT can't know
what else you need. Also, you can find cables/terminators at far better
prices than NeXT's if you look around.

It would be nice, however, if when you placed an order (by phone at least)
the people taking the order were prompted to say something like "are you
going ot need a cable with that?"
