I add notes to the online docs all the time. I usually do it in bold, with the text flush left so that it is immediately obvious that it's an added note. However, the printed docs are currently more up-to-date and more complete than the online docs. I received some email from a NeXT employee on this subject, an edited copy of which I have included below. I have no idea why this person didn't post this info to the net, but I'm going to respect the person's anonymity by editing relevant parts of the message (I hope this person doesn't mind the fact that I am posting this, though I don't know why he/she should mind). Included (edited) message follows: > Some books are different from the on-line version, some aren't. The one you probably care about, the General Reference, has changed quite a bit in some places from the on-line version. I'm not sure exactly what changed, but from what I remember, some of the 3D Kit doc has changed, NetInfo Kit doc has changed, and the doc for new appkit API, as well as for controls & cells, has changed to some extent. The doc for Indexing Kit and DB Kit has changed a lot. I'm sure more has changed, but it's hard to know the extent of the changes, since 6+ writers worked on that book. > > The OS software and UI books, on the other hand, are the same as the on-line version. The Programming Interface Summary (used to be called "Technical Summaries") is available only in printed form -- not online. I'm not sure what the story is on the "Development Tools and Techniques" book. > > To be exact, every book has a few sections that aren't online: human-generated index, suggested reading, glossary, introduction, and those wonderfully aesthetic front and back covers. And the UI book, in particular, works better in print than online because it contains so many figures. > -- Nevin Pratt, Digital Technology, Int'l Orem, Ut NeXTmail preferred, but ONLY at my REAL email address: nevin@dtint.dtint.com -- --- root root@dtint.dtint.com Digital Technology Int.
