We have a strange problem that happens with every single application that uses the DSP chip. When it attempts to do something with sound, we get the error "Can't open DSP. Perhaps another application has it." Yet the machine has been rebooted numerous times, so it is not very likely that some other application actually has the DSP open. My guess is that some application crashed while using the DSP and left some sort of lock behind. I would guess it is on disk somewhere, since it survives reboots. Of course, I could be totally wrong. Does anyone have a clue as to what the problem is and how to solve it? Incidently, we're still running NextStep 2.1 if it matters. I have the 3.0 CD-ROM, and I've thought of installing it in the hopes that it would fix the problem, but I'd like to know for sure before I do that. Besides, I'd like to know what the hell this is in case it ever comes up again. -- Greg Orman greg@pomona.claremont.edu Systems Manager greg@donald.claremont.edu (NeXTmail) Seaver Academic Computing Services Pomona College Standard disclaimer-type stuff
