I've read all the posts on the NeXT RISC workstation and the rumor of the
new processor that NeXT wants to use. I have come to this conclusion:
The chip should:
1. Be available from multiple vendors.
2. Be fast enough to replace the DSP and compression chips.
3. Be expandable, ie able to plug another processor in and have them
work in parallel.
4. I don't know what SuperScalar means, but it seems like a good
feature to have in a processor.
5. And finally, not be so expensive that it drives the prices of NeXTs
even higher.
Being a student at Penn State, I don't have much money. However, I KNOW
that the NeXT is the best computer in the world, and I must get one someday.
However, I have watched the prices of NeXTs go up and up with no reason. Not
only that but they are dropping the best machines for entry-level users like
me: The non-Turbo, 8MB systems. Oh sure, they'll run slow, but let me
worry about that. Don't take away my freedom of choice and drive me away
by raising prices.
There, that's my two cents worth.
Nate :)
