In the Jan 4 issue of Open Systems Today on page 3 ( :-O ) is an article that
says NeXT plans to port NeXTSTEP to a number of platforms. I'll paraphrase the
good bits,

"Next Computer will be porting NextStep to several RISC platforms, company
officals have confirmed."

"SPARC, Hewlet-Packard's PA-RISC, Digital Equipment Corp.'s Alpha APX and
PowerPC...are the leading contenders"

"Despite its new strategy, Bachman* insists Next won't get out of the hardware
business and will build workstations this year based on an as-yet-unrevealed
RISC platfirm. Upgrades of existing Motorola 68040-based hardware also will be
offered in 1993, he said"

" ..he did rule out the Motorola 88000."

*Brett Bachman, Next director of software marketing. He is quoted many times.

Take this for what it's worth, but it's encouraging to me.
