Spurious DMA Interrupts

I have what I believe is a network related problem, but my network gurus here
have been unable to track down any problems. The symptons are that whenever I
perform some function that requires network access (nfs, ftp, ...) I get error
messages of the following sort logged:

Spurious DMA interrupt - state = 1000000 @ 2000110
en0: transmitter not ready
spurious DMA interrupt
spurious DMA interrupt
spurious DMA interrupt
NFS server frodo not responding still trying
Jan 5 15:45:12 gandalf lookupd[77]: netinfo failure, sleeping
NFS server frodo ok
Jan 5 15:59:31 gandalf lookupd[77]: netinfo waking
NFS server frodo not responding still trying

spurious DMA interrupt
Spurious DMA interrupt - state = 1000000 @ 2000110
Spurious DMA interrupt - state = 1000000 @ 2000110

Network access is definitely slower than before these symptons cropped up.
Also, ping gives unusual results as shown:

I would appreciate any help in tracking down the cause of these problems.

Thanks!
