Jim appears to be right.  On my NeXT (3.0), I seem to be able to get
interpolation when I go to an 8x8 1 bit/sample image.  And even then the
interpolation is not what I hoped for.  I thought/hoped that it would be
interpolating to the device resolution, but in my case it only subsampled
by a factor of 4, and the resulting image samples are still obvious and
much, much larger than the device pixels.

I haven't seen interpolation in any of my 8 bit/sample tests.

This is disappointing, especially since Ian Kemmish
<uad1077@dircon.co.uk> reports in another post that my original test
interpolates fine on his clone (PC?).  I had hoped my NeXT would do as
well.
