I'm trying to compile some very long (16 X ~500 terms) equations for numerical work. When I try to compile this using the NeXT version of gcc (1.36) WITH optimization I get: "Internal compiler error. Program cc1 got fatal signal 11." Same (?) thing happens using Sun C 1.1: "compiler error: out of tree space; try simplifying" The code DOES compile WITHOUT optimization under NeXT's gcc. It also compiles WITH optimization under gcc 2.0 on a Sparc 1+ (it takes eons) and under "c89" on an R6000 (it takes considerably less than eons). My question is: Is there a way to get around this problem (like some switch), or must I get a newer compiler on the NeXTs (and throw out Sun C 1.1 on the Sparcs :)? -- Magnus Nordborg Department of Biological Sciences Stanford University Stanford, CA 94301-5020 USA (415) 723-4952 magnus@Kimura.Stanford.EDU
