Question about loadable kernel segments

I've read through the documentation, and there doesn't seem to be anything
there about writing loadable kernel segments that deal specifically with the
serial port. The stuff is all there in the header files (zscom.h zsreg.h), but
I'd like to have some documentation.

The best example I can give is: Where would you start looking if you had to
write the midi driver from scratch? (No, I don't need to, but what I want to
do is similar)

Thanx in advance...
Derek
