Regexp searching in Edit

I did not notice this until now, but Edit does not find regular
expressions properly, or at least it does not understand Unix-style
regular expressions.

a) Is this a bug/limitation?
b) Is Edit's regexp syntax different from normal Unix-style regexp?
c) If a, is it fixed under 3.0?
