I am relatively new to NeXT programming, so please forgive this if it is a FAQ. How does one create a file package from an app? Once it is created is there any trick to the open/save panels recognizing it as a package and not a plain directory? Thank you for any help Kevin sapp@sawdust.ssc.gov -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin A. (NextLibrary/Documentation/NextDev/Notes/Installer.rtf) You need 2.0 to use the Installer packages. > Once it is created is there any trick to the open/save panels recognizing > it as a package and not a plain directory? > No, the installer does this for you. Double-click are you are off and running. Aside: Packages are extremely helpful for distribution of software. This is especially true if you are distributing muitl-volume floppys - and "mere mortal" users. If you read the Installer carefully, everything you need to know for packages is in there. Installer was a great invention from NeXT. Just my $0.02, John -- John Robison - john@oceania.com NeXTMail Gladly Accepted --> What I say has absolutely nothing to do with my employer. If you're using InterfaceBuilder under 2.x, go to the Project Inspector, click on Attributes, and check the File Package box in the lower left hand corner. [Presumably ProjectBuilder in 3.0 will offer something similar.] >Once it is created is there any trick to the open/save panels recognizing >it as a package and not a plain directory? Yes. The class is "hardwired" to treat directories with .app suffixes specially. -=EPS=-
