It seems that no matter which directory the Save or Open panel is displaying I always want to look somewhere else. Wouldn't it be great if... The Save and Open panels had shelves like the File Viewer and Finder panel so you could create "bookmarks" in the file system and jump to often used folders quickly and easily? The Home button is a nice, but putting a shelf in these panels would provide much more flexibility and yet not break the established interface rules (i.e., this has already been done with the finder panel, Digital Librarian, and File Viewer). I want a "Lock Shelf Item" feature in Workspace File Viewer. Since a lot of things now supports drag and drop from workspace, I keep losing files/directories placed on the shelf by dragging those into applications. Default action should be what it is -- remove from shelf if dragged out, but there should be an option to lock down shelf items individually, so you can drag a directory from shelf to Save/Open panels without waiting for it to appear in the Icon Path (which is slooow). This should solve your problem without cluttering Save/Open panels. -- Izumi Ohzawa [ $@Bg_78^=;(J ] USMail: University of California, 360 Minor Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720 Telephone: (510) 642-6440 Fax: (510) 642-3323 Internet: izumi@pinoko.berkeley.edu (NeXT Mail OK)

I've been wanting something like this for quite awhile (like since we bought our first NeXT...). In 3.0 at least you can drop files and folders into open and save panels and have them jump to that location. One thing we're planning to do in MetroTools is allow you to drag files and folders out of our dock so you could use it like a shelf. It would have the added benefit (over the file viewer's shelf) of not having the icons disappear after they have been dragged out. I'd like to see a shelf there as well to hold the collection of fonts I'm using in a particular doc. -- Larry Blische uunet!lkba!lkb LKB Associates, Inc. 410 285 2262
