"Ghosted" icons in File Viewer shelf

Hi folks.
	I'm just trying to pretty up an application of mine that accepts  
icons dragged in from the File Viewer.  What I would like to do is ghost  
the icon image as it enters the Icon Well in the same way the the File  
Viewer shelf does.
	I have tried various combinations of compositing, with alpha,  
compositing gray boxes over top, etc., and I can't seem to duplicate the  
effect exactly right.  Can anyone tell me the secret???  Pretty please?
