cannot send iconReleasedAt message: why?

I have been putting drag and drop capability into a program, following
along the lines of the Acceptor example and the ImageText
mini-example.  I added the methods
 iconEntered:at::iconWindow:iconX:iconY:iconWidth:iconHeight:pathList:
 iconExitedAt::
 iconReleasedAt::ok:
to my application's delegate.  Things usually work well, but sometimes
the machine hangs for a while, then returns and there is a message in
the console log: 
   cannot send iconReleasedAt message (errno=-203)
Is this from the Workspace Manager?  What could be causing it?  There
is no repeatable sequence I can go through to cause this to happen.

I am running OS 2.1, Workspace Version 218, PostScript Version 2.1.55.4.
