Is it possible to maintain a connection to Sybase with dblib in an app that also uses the DBKit? Thanks, Bill Parod

I have found DBKit to be useful for some things, but too restrictive for others. The only way around this is to go straight into DB-Library. --- Kevin Hegg Internet: e3ukjh@fnma.com Fannie Mae Phone: (202) 752-7813

Hi all I am interested in buying a next machine , possibly a used one, or a new one would be fine too . Would anyone care to give me an idea of how much I am about to spend on a particular model and what does the package entail (software and hardware). Thanks. Is anyone interested in selling their Next Machine? Please respond to ae2@cunixa.cc.columbia.edu. Thanks /amiran P.S. Is there an educational discount for the Next?

There appears to be no way to get at the DBPROC structure that the Sybase adaptor uses to establish the database connection. Therefore, you will need to connect to the database twice-- once for the dblib stuff, and again for the DBKIT stuff. And that leads to the next problem... There appears to be no way to access the complete login information (including password) that the DBDatabase object used to make a connection. Therefore, the dblib connection will have to be made first, and the login information that it used can then be used to programmatically initiate the DBKIT connection. And that leads to the next problem... For the reasons outlined above, you won't be able to use the DBKIT's automatic login panel. You'll have to write your own login panel for dblib (although this is very straight-forward and easy to do). -- Nevin Pratt, Digital Technology, Int'l Orem, Ut NeXTmail preferred, but ONLY at my REAL email address: nevin@dtint.dtint.com -- --- root root@dtint.dtint.com Digital Technology Int.
